Eglise Saint André

Église Saint André, place Voltaire, Châteauroux

Je retranscris ci-après un passage présenté sur le 'totem' touristique présent place Voltaire.

L'église néogothique Saint André qui mesure 87 m de long et 33 m de large est surmontée d'une double flèche pour atteindre 68 m de haut. Elle fut édifiée entre 1870 et 1876 par Alfred Dauvergne et le maître d'oeuvre Geoffroy Talichet.

En 1938, aux commandes d'un petit avion, je pilote Tourès passait entre les deux flèches, ce qui fut salué comme un exploit. Devant le parvis se tenaient, à la fin du XIX ème et au début du XX ème, les foires aux moutons.

Saint André (Saint Andrew) church is neo-gothic styled. The builing is 87 m long, 33 m wide and provides a double, 68 m high spire. It was erected between 1870 and 1876 by Mr Alfred Dauvergne, assisted by the Project Manager Geoffroy Talichet.

In 1938, a Pilot named Tourès flew between the two spires, as he piloted a small plane. At the end of XIX th and at the beginning of the XX th centuries, sheep trades took place in front of the church.
